Polina, Luhansk

Across the conflict stricken regions of Ukraine diabetes festers due to the war. The war has resulted in there being no medical support in the disputed territories. Along with the stresses the conflict brings and the struggle to provide children with a healthy diet, children are suffering with a severe lack of insulin and healthy food causing distress for single parents and families. ChildAid is working tirelessly with local volunteers to supply these children with insulin, medicine and food.

Polina is 17 years old and lives with her Grandmother in Luhansk. She suffers with diabetes and has been in need of insulin for 15 years.

Polina is of an age where she is well aware of the troubles and conflict in her neighbourhood. She has seen friends' families ripped apart by death and war. Her own parents left her and went to live in Russia when the conflict began. The stress of the conflict has taken a serious toll on Polina's health.

She currently lives with her grandmother in dire poverty. She studies in railway college and remains optimistic about her future. Our volunteers have supplied her with much needed insulin and remark she is a cheerful girl who just needs support in this desperate time. You can support our work in providing insulin to children in need by donating to our Eureka appeal - bit.ly/17gjRTp

In the past year we have directly helped 2,300 people; and indirectly helped thousands more. These are just some of their faces.
