Ekaterina, Luhansk

Across the conflict stricken regions of Ukraine diabetes festers due to the war. The war has resulted in there being no medical support in the disputed territories. Along with the stresses the conflict brings and the struggle to provide children with a healthy diet, children are suffering with a severe lack of insulin and healthy food causing distress for single parents and families. ChildAid is working tirelessly with local volunteers to supply these children with insulin, medicine and food.

Ekaterina is 13 years old and lives in Luhansk. She has suffered with diabetes since childhood and her condition has worsened throughout the conflict.

Our local volunteers met Ekaterina during a visit to the Children's Hospital. She was hospitalised due to her blood sugars reaching such low levels. This was the case for many hospitalised children as our volunteers grew even more aware of the insulin crisis gripping the region.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters we were able to fund local volunteers and supply them with much needed insulin, blood glucose meters and test strips. Ekaterina's family send their love and thanks to ChildAid and its supporters and are very grateful for the help. The family were also supplied with fresh fruit and vegetables.
